Eoin O'Neill - Collected Tabs

Eoin O’Neill is a bouzouki player, singer, radio presenter, and a central figure in the traditional Irish music scene of County Clare.

Although not originally from Clare, he moved to Doolin in late 1979 and quickly became an integral part of the local music tradition. His style is characterized by dynamic accompaniment: powerful bouzouki rhythms, a strong sense of groove, and a keen ear for the musical atmosphere in both sessions and concerts.

He has performed with renowned musicians such as Mary Custy, Sharon Shannon, and Kevin Griffin, and has contributed to numerous albums as both a collaborator and accompanist. In addition, he hosts radio shows on Clare FM, where he often highlights local and lesser-known musicians.

In recognition of his contributions, he received the MÓRglór Award in 2015—an honor celebrating outstanding achievements in traditional music in County Clare.

Over the years I tried to make tabs of his playing. Here's a list of my tabs:

- The Cliffs Of Moher (In Session 2)

- Martyn Wynne's No. 3 (Video Recording with Manus McGuire)

- The Pinches Snuff (Video Recording with Manus McGuire)

- The Laurel Tree (Video Recording with Manus McGuire)

- Down By The Sally Gardens (Song ADAD)

- The Road To Drumlemon (Song with Noirin Lynch)

- Whelan's Old Sow (with Brid O'Gorman)

Whelan's Old Sow - Brid O'Gorman - Eoin O' Neill

A lovely Jig which reminds me of another Jig called Rolling Waves. Absolutely beautifully played by Brid and Eoin.

Here is my attempt to tab the accompanyment. Be careful, Eoin plays in ADAD but I tabbed it for GDAD. Upper line is melody from thesession.org, second line is bouzouki accompaniment.

If you want the tab in printable form just write me an email and comment.

Eoin O'Neill - The Laurel Tree - Tab

Some days ago I posted the tab for Martin Wynne's No 3. Then I posted The Pinche's Snuff, also called The Pinch of Snuff. Now it's the third tune in this set called "The Laurel Tree", sometime also called "The Laurel Bush".

This is my attempt to tab Eoin's accompaniment of The Laurel Tree

If you want the whole tab in pdf form just write an email and comment.

This is an excerpt, the melody is underneath the accompaniment. The melody is taken from thesession.org.

If you would like the tabledit file, so you can listen to it and edit it please write a comment or a mail.

The Pinche's Snuff - Eoin O'Neill Tab

Some days ago I posted the tab for Martin Wynne's No 3. Now I tried to tab the second tune in this set, The Pinche's Snuff, also called The Pinch of Snuff.

This is my attempt to tab Eoin's accompaniment of The Pinch of Snuff:

Martin Wynne’s No.3 Set - Tab - Eoin O'Neill

Last year Eoin O'Neill gave a workshop for Virtual O'Flaherty's Irish Music Retreat. In the evening there were concerts presented. This was one of the videos. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the fiddler. If you know him please write in the comments.

This is my attempt to tab Eoin's accompaniment of Martin Wynne's No.3. It works on ADAD and GDAD, Capo on 5th fret. The melody is underneath the accompaniment.

If you want the whole tab in pdf form just write an email and comment.

Eoin O'Neill - The Cliffs of Moher Tab

I really love Eoin's new CD, so I tried to tab his accompaniment of The Cliffs of Moher, a well known Jig. First, here's the link to the recording on bandcamp. Please consider buying the album if you like it.

Here's a picture of my attempt to  tab the arrangement. It is in GDAD, but if you play in ADAD there's no big difference. If you'll find any mistakes (I'm pretty sure you will ;-) please let me know.

The Road To Drumleman - Eoin O'Neill backing

While searching for songs which are backed by Eoin O'Neill on bouzouki I came across this lovely CD by singer Noirin Lynch.

I tried to tab the backing for the first verse to study Eoin's playing. Here is my humble attempt. It is for the tuning of ADAD. But as the A-string is rarely used it is also possible for GDAD with the exception of 2 notes in bars 13 and 16, it has to be 2nd fret on G-string which gives the needed A.

Down By The Sally Gardens - Eoin O'Neill Backing

Last October I took part in an online workshop with Eoin O'Neill. 9 video lessons, each around 20-30 minutes long he produced for the O'Flaherty retreat 2020. What an inspiration. Since then I play bouzouki in ADAD most of the times. It's much fun to back tunes in ADAD. But when singing I still use GDAD.

During that workshop he backed the singer Clara Buteler when singing "Down by the sally gardens". Now I tried to tab the accompaniment of the first verse. So here it is. Unfortunately I can't post the video here.

The Tab is for ADAD, but if you use GDAD it is nearly the same. Only one note is played on the low string, so you just have to play this D-Note on the 7th fret instead of the 5th fret which is notated for ADAD.
